Indian Cricket - We are loosing ground on a single thought - An All rounder in Pursuit

Time and again we keep insisting that we need Irfan Pathan in our team. Top and middle order always keep on failing consistently. Why are we insisting so much on having an allrounder at the cost of Irfan Pathan’s capabilities.

Everyone knows, Irfan Pathan is more effective as a batsman rather than picking up for his bowling abilities. He does not have that pace to create problems in the opposition. Till he masters the art of swing again, let him continue concentrating on line and length and firing yorkers. Take the case of Ravi Shastri, he became a frontline batsman from a full time bowler So, why not Irfan Pathan. Use him as a batsman and try him as a utility bowler.

Irfan has been cooling heels on the boundary lines for almost 3-4 years now. Why can’t we appreciate his batting abilities which he brings in and strengthens our batting lineup. Our batting order would always look good on paper but in reality never fires and their success rate would be around every 20-25 games.

We are choosing Ravindra Jadeja, Abhishek Nair’s, Yusuf Pathan who are all good for IPLs and Champion Leagues and don’t have that confidence to perform on a bigger stage. We have seen enough of them and their efforts in the opportunities thrown at them. They bat like hell when faced with international class bowling especially in real-time matches.

Still, Irfan is young and a better batsman to be kept out of the side for so long at the cost of these IPL newcomers. Why are we rusting his abilities as a batsman by keeping him on the sidelines. Why are we so stubborn in decision making that does not allow a player to contribute to the success of the team.

Batting powerplay, you cannot hide the truth that the bowler is in the worst conditions trying to bowl the batsman. He is too worried whether to go for attack by taking wickets or contain the batsman. With pressure mounting on his shoulders, he is unable to do either of them.

Indian bowlers never learn from their mistakes and keep bowling short of length or give too much width for a batsman to hit it wherever he likes. Where are those yorkers and off-stump line bowling. Can’t they stick to basics and bowl the opposition. Let the batsman commit mistakes in trying to score runs from the line and length bowler.

Whatever is said by selectors and past players, Inspite of having best bowling lineup, we are unable to contain the opposition below 290-300 odd runs. You take a better bowler, he would save not more than 20 runs. It is our fielding that needs to be improved, take all those catches that is spilled around mostly at crucial times.

There would only be one or two occasion where in the opposition throws in the towel and gets bogged down by Indian bowling. Most of the time, Indians would end up chasing in excess of 300 runs. We keep telling ourselves, we miss Zaheer Khan - surely we miss him badly because he brings in the fire in the Indian bowling attack which in turn rubs on the younger bowlers.

I have a question, does BCCI ever think about getting our national team into winning ways of the game. Or it is too busy in getting revenues by hosting series-by-series and are least concerned about our country success and their game upliftment.

Does BCCI need a situation where every common man supporting Indian cricket boycott these matches by watching these games on TV. Why every cricketer coming into the national side is peforming so well and brings lots of promise and hopes of the future suddenly goes out of touch and fades away so easily within no time.

What is the real reason behind it. Has the BCCI ever asked these young guns about what they want and try to instill more confidence by supporting them by taking extra care of them. Money is not everything. Once, you start getting big incomes, it becomes a routine. After that you need selectors and people to appreciate these young players efforts.

We need a bowling coach. International coaches have always been found guilty of protecting themselves in this position. They easily pass on the blame to the players or domestic coaches. They should take the entire responsibility for every loss that our national team goes through. After all, they are paid a handsome amount for their duties, they are not obliging us on any counts.

Have we ever tried getting our past players into our team as a coach even one single time viz. Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Sandeep Patil, Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Manjrekar. We keep getting their opinions on the news channels but, have never been given them a chance to show their capabilities. We always show more trust and faith in the international coaches the same way as we go for foreign made or so called imported items.

We never supported Indian contingents and have always given undue importance to these foreign coaches. What great job they have done for our country. It has always been our sheer talent and individual’s brilliance on the day, he has performed. The credit goes to the coach and less importance given to the efforts of the players who are performing on the field.

I would like to again remind you all that inspite of these foreign coaches, we never see any kind of improvement in our players performance then, why are we paying hefty amount in terms of fees to these coaches. We are not at all improving our success rate then can’t we have trust on our Indian coaches.

Give a thought to it and try to improve our game which every individual is so obsessed with the game of cricket.
